Home Textile Tool Museum Workshops

July 10 - “Felting a Mask or Scarf “ with Denise Tarbox - 10am until finished (4ish). Maximum number of students: 8. Instructor fee: $40. Materials fee: $30 for scarf, $10 for mask. This includes all materials needed. Denise will endeavor to contact each student to find out what they are interested in making so she can bring appropriate feathers and beads and embellishments. Items to bring: Students may want to bring large and small scissors, needles and thread and perhaps some of their own embellishments that Denise may not have.

July 17 - “Decorative Mending Techniques” with Margaret Boritz - 10am until 4pm. Fee: $25. Materials: $10. Class Size: 8-10. Learn how to mend your favorite sweater, shirt, gloves, scarf, hat, or socks with fanciful and decorative stitches. A variety of materials will be employed to make your treasured items wearable again. Margaret developed an interest in creative mending when her father got a permanent stain on his favorite sweater and she has been embroidering for 25 years.

July 24 - “Naalbinding” with Michelle Kaleta - 10am until 4pm. Fee: $25. Materials: $20. Class size: max of 5. Learn to knit like a Viking! Naalbinding is an ancient form of constructing garments with a single needle and yarn. Make a small bag or a hat using the Oslo stitch! Materials included: naalbinding needle and two skeins of yarn. Materials to bring: Just yourself and a sense of humor and adventure!

August 1 - “Soapmaking” with Laryssa Zahajkewycz - (this class is on Homesteading Day- a Saturday from 10:30 to 4) Fee: $25. Materials: $35. Class size: max of 8. Laryssa is well-known regionally as a popular workshop teacher of a wide variety of homesteading skills and has been making soap for 25 years. Her workshop features basic soapmaking using beef tallow and vegetable oils. Students will have a variety of scents to use in their finished products (24 bars of soap).

August 14/15 - “Designing & Embroidering a Tiny Landscape” with Anna Oliver - Instructor Fee: $50. Materials: $15 (Includes linen, DMC floss, frame, embroidery hoop, needle, thread snips). Class size: max of 8. For beginners and those who wish to design their own patterns. Simple four stitches and eight colors combine to make a 2 1/2 x 3 inch embroidery. Tiny abstract embroidered land-scapes, perfect for beginners! Using eight colors of DMC floss to design and execute an embroidered landscape.
