Home Textile Tool Museum Workshops

Friday June 15Coiled Pine Needle Basket Workshopwith Carolyn Lukovich.  10:00 am start until finished.  Fee: $25, Materials: $20.  Class size: Max 8.  Carolyn has taught many workshops in the region.

Friday July 13“Drafting Longdraw” Spinning Workshop with Tracy Sayre from 10:00 to 4:00.  This workshop will cover point of contact and double drafting using a variety of fiber preparations.  We will also discuss plying, ratios, spinning fine, one handed drafting and what constitutes a woolen yarn.  Fee: $25, Materials: $25.  Class size: Max 8.  Tracy has been a handspinner for 30 years.  She has her own fiber animals and enjoys working with their fleeces.

Friday July 20Soap Making Workshop with Laryssa Zahajkewycz from 10:00 – 4:00.  Fee: $25, Materials: $20.  Class size: Max 8.  Laryssa is known regionally as a popular workshop teacher.

Friday July 27Painting with Wool: Needle Felting Workshop with Denise Tarbox starting at 10:00.  Fee: $25, Materials: $10.  Max: 10 students.  Denise will supply wool, needle and a foam pad.  The product will be an 8x10 picture.  Each student needs to bring two or three pictures to serve as ideas to choose from to reproduce an 8x10 picture.

Thurs-Friday August 16-17“Reading and Understanding Early Weavers Notation” Workshop with Pat Hilts.  The notation used to record early patterns from the 17 – 19th centuries differs greatly from modern drafts.  Learn how to interpret early drafts and adapt them for present day use.  This is a 2 day workshop at the museum from 10:00 – 4:00.  Lunch will be supplied.  Fee: $65, Materials: $20.  Class size: Max 8.  Pat is HTTM’s curator and she is a textile historian who has published widely on the history of spinning and weaving.
