This portable table-top spindle wheel was patented by John Bryce of Grand Haven, Michigan in 1872. As is the case with the great wheel, yarn is spun off the tip of the spindle. However, great wheels with their forty-eight-inch drive wheels are not easy to carry from place to place. The Bryce patent wheel can be easily transported and clamped to a table top for spinning. Bryce was an employee of J. B. Wait, and when Wait moved to Grand Haven, Michigan, Bryce moved with him.
