Beginning Tatting with Needle and Shuttle

July 9 @ 9:00 am - July 10 @ 3:30 pm

Beginning Tatting with Needle and Shuttle –  Karey Solomon

Time:  10.30 – 3.30 (both days)

Class size:  7 students

Instructor Fee:  $60

Materials Fee:  $20 – Each student will receive a kit containing a set of different-size tatting needles, thread samples, beads,  a shuttle, a sewing needle and a few other tools.  You will also receive a folder of hand-outs.

Demystify and enjoy the not-very-old art of tatting – a lace whose stitches are knots that can be made with a needle or shuttle.  This was long considered one of a lady’s essential needlework skills – but today gentlemen tat also!  We’ll begin with needle tatting which is most accessible for beginners and you’ll very quickly be making the rings and chains which are tatting’s building blocks.  On the second day we’ll progress to making those same knots with a shuttle.  You will get easy patterns and links to more difficult ones; you’ll see a “trunk show” of tatted work, books and possibilities; you’ll leave with several finished pieces and the tools to keep learning as well as an invitation to join a group of tatters who meet regularly nearby who can help you on your tatting journey.

*Materials to bring:  If  your time permits, you may want to look at you tube videos on needle or shuttle tatting before the class; but you need no prior knowledge. Please bring a small scissors, a pencil for taking notes – and a smile!
